"Only through freedom and environmental experience is it practically possible for human development to occur." - Dr. Maria Montessori
Early Childhood Development
When an infant is born, the brain is not fully developed. It develops through the interactions of genes and experiences. Early experiences shape the developing brain and create the foundation for all future learning, behavior, and health. Just as a weak foundation compromises the quality and strength of a house, adverse experiences early in life can impair brain development, with negative effects lasting into adulthood. This damage creates significant lifelong learning, behavior, physical and mental health problems. Orphaned and vulnerable children who do not receive a high-quality early childhood education are
25% more likely to drop out of school
40% more likely to become a teen parent
50% more likely to be placed in special education
70% more likely to be arrested for a violent crime
Early childhood programs are the most direct and cost-effective way to ensure the healthy development of this vulnerable population and offer the greatest returns to society. The United Nations, World Bank, USAID and other top organizations have stated that early childhood education programs are key in advancing human development and ending the cycle of poverty. Despite this, there are currently no established organizations that globally address this need. Orion Children International is changing that.
Orion Children International has collaborated with top professionals in education, health, and development to create a sustainable Early Childhood Development program. This program is strategically designed to provide orphaned and vulnerable children living in developing nations with the highest-quality early childhood education available.
